Day 172, Thursday, 17 September, 2009

Carnarvon

Distance travelled –  11.7 km
Avg speed –  17.2 kph
Max speed –  25.6 kph

Today would have to be the shortest distance we have ridden fully loaded. The apartment we have booked until Thursday next week is right on the water front across the road from what is known as the Fascine. Everything is in walking distance from us and we are certainly looking forward to our break.

After a check up with the local doctor Denise has learnt that she has symptoms of asthma that possibly have been brought on by an allergy to a pollen we have encountered along our route.  The good news is that it is treatable and the doctor expects Denise to be fit again next week when we are scheduled to leave. Given these findings we are very pleased that we took the decision to catch the bus and not push on and ride to Carnarvon.

We are now talking about doing a few side trips on our way to Perth to ‘make up’ for our time on the bus. Kalbarri and the wild flowers being reported on local radio along the inland roads near Geraldton sound very attractive.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
