This website documents our bicycle ride around Australia. Our plan is to travel in an anticlockwise direction, sticking to the coast as much as possible and to visit every state and capital along the way. It will be an unsupported ride with us carrying everything we need on our bikes.
We do not wish to rush and will take our time to soak up as much as possible. We aim to take a casual ten months to complete the trip.(Update - As our journey has progressed we have decided to take an additional 2 months returning home approximately 12 months after we left).

Our About page includes all the background information about the ride and all the answers you may be looking for about "Sprung Chickens".

Our latest report will always appear below before being archived with previous reports that can be retrieved from our Daily Reports page.

Cann River

This morning at 8.00am we made the decision to stay in Cann River. Our next stop is Eden and 110km away. The forecast is again for heavy rain, 90% chance 10-20mm, with severe thunderstorms for this afternoon. With not much shelter between Cann River and Eden we have decided to play it safe and bring one of our rest days forward.

Also since receiving an Email (titled - We're working too! Or at least we're thinking about it) from fellow cyclists summering over in Darwin we have felt a little hard done by:

Mark, Denise,
We’re working too!

Take today for instance. I unloaded the dishwasher, walked to the cafe, read the NT News from cover to cover, walked to the NT library to listen to Terry O’Gorman speak and in between all that I had to spend the afternoon on the bed reading and sleeping. So we’re not exactly dole bludgers here in Darwin ya know.....Oh yeah, I forgot I also hung out some washing and booked a table for diner on Saturday evening. We’re keeping the lights burning here in the Northern Territory.

So lay off....
Ride safely!

So we have decided to take the opportunity and have our own Darwin experience in Cann River.

- unloading the dishwasher – we could not find one
- walked to the café – we did this a couple of times
- read the NT News from cover to cover, - we could not find the NT News so we chose a thicker more challenging paper The Herald Sun Sunday, read cover to cover
- walked to the library – we discovered it was closed today
- spent the afternoon on the bed reading and sleeping – we did that too
- also hung out some washing – Denise did that yesterday
- booked a table for diner on Saturday evening – We missed Saturday but the spelling mistake has helped us decide to go to ‘Jen and Dazza’s Diner’ for dinner. We went to the pub last night.

AND in an attempt at one-up-one-ship we watched the ‘Blues Brothers’.

Needless to say at Cann River it did not rain today.

As you can see from the map below Cann River is only four days ride from Canberra, however we will be taking the longer route, closing our loop around Australia in Sydney before heading home at the end of the month.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
