Ravenshoe to Forty Mile Scrub National Park

Distance travelled – 109.9 km
Avg speed – 18.6 kph
Max speed – 54.8 kph

Last night we discussed the possibility of riding all the way to Mount Surprise in one day – a distance of 170km. Everyone was telling us that it is all downhill from Ravenshoe so we thought there was a slight possibility that we could push through the kilometres.

However, never believe what a car driver tells you about hills or the lack of hills. Although the first 16km was definitely downhill the next 90km has you climbing back to nearly the same height Ravenshoe is. So camp for tonight was a rest area at Forty Mile Scrub National Park.

Today was also our first introduction to road trains with Mount Garnett being the eastern most point they are allowed to travel. We have some good video footage from the handlebar cam. Click here to watch the video.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
