Day 052, Wednesday, 20 May 2009

Distance travelled – 112.7 km
Avg speed – 18.5 kph
Max speed – 47.2 kph

Rockhampton, Marlborough

Today was a hard day due to the rough road surface. Although sealed, the asphalt was predominantly made up of large stones creating a lot of friction between our tyres and limiting our rolling capacity. At times as we rode along the flat it felt like we were riding up hill with our brakes on.

In the days prior to this people had told us that the trip from Rockhampton to Mackay was very boring. We disagree, perhaps because we travel a lot slower than a car we have a lot more time to see what is around us, but it is far from boring.  As we write this from our notes four days later we find it hard to remember the hard work but it is easy to recall the scenery, the stops, the chocolate milk and the ice cream.

We arrived at Marlborough after 5.00pm and after putting up the tent and a long hot shower we put our lights on our bikes and rode over to the Caltex Truck Oasis for dinner.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
