Bowen

Today was a scheduled rest day.

In the morning we cycled up Flagstaff Hill. The ride up was quite steep but we were rewarded with beautiful 360 degree views of Bowen and the islands just off the coast.

Bowen is a very nice town and it is easy to see why the location scouts picked it to recreate 1930’s Darwin in the film “Australia”. Mostly flat it is easy to get around being less than 10km between Front Beach and the “Resort” beaches.

We had an early lunch at the café on Flagstaff Hill of fresh local seafood, and then cycled into town to have a look around. We had arranged to visit the gentleman Mark met outside the supermarket yesterday to record his stories.

Mark’s mirror fell off today requiring our first repair for the trip but we had the necessary spare and tools to put it all back together.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
