Day 063, Sunday, 31 May 2009 to Day 067 Thursday 4 June 2009

Over the last couple of days everything has fallen into place for us. Our spare wheel arrived on Wednesday morning as did some other parts we ordered for our helmet camera, so we are ready to continue our trip, all well ahead of what we thought possible.

Our week has been very relaxed, slow and quiet. But over the last few days we have had a few calls from Multilocus’ clients requesting a number of tasks to be completed. So in 8 days we will be taking another week’s break from riding in Cairns to undertake this work before we head west and away from the more populated areas of eastern Australia.

Since we arrived in Bowen a week ago the wind has been “blowen” continuously but late this afternoon to our relief it abated and tonight as we write this update a pleasant gentle breeze is coming through the open door rather than the gale we have become used to. Locals tell us “Bowen used to be called Blowen until the wind blew the “L” out of the name”.

As we mentioned a couple of reports back, parts of the movie “Australia” were filmed in Bowen. On Tuesday evening we hired the DVD for $1.00 and watched the film for the first time. Since we have watched the film, each time we walk into town we feel we are walking through a movie set and for some reason everything looks older than it did before we watched the movie. The movie’s Police Station and Lockup remains standing and does not look out of place even though it is made from hessian and plaster of paris and held together with staples.

Tomorrow we repack and get ready for an early departure on Saturday. We hope our legs remember what to do.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
