Mount Surprise and Undara Lava Tubes

Had a nice sleep in (well to 7am anyway) and then went on a half day tour to the Undara Lava Tubes. The tour is run by Bedrock Village and includes bus transport to and from Undara, which is very appealing for us cyclists.

Before we left on the tour, Mark was rearranging and locking up the bikes and discovered that my front tyre was flat – not completely but nearly so. Could this be our first puncture?

The trip to Undara was very interesting with spectacular views from the top of Kalkani Crater. We also walked through three different sections of lava tubes. If we did the full day tour we would have seen a further two sections, but we knew we needed some time this afternoon to catch up with our diary writing and to get ready for the leg to Georgetown tomorrow.

We could not find a puncture in my front tube, but we put a new tube in to be sure. Much easier to do that in the shade outside our cabin than in the sun and dust along the roadside somewhere.

Zoom into the map and use the 'Satellite' layer to see our new location.
